People’s tastes and preferences change drastically and frequently. What is trending one year may not be so the next year. Food & Beverage Industry is the most affected by these external factors. So here are some trends for the industry for 2023. 

  1. HORECA – The full form of HORECA is Hotel, Restaurant & Café. Some companies create frozen and ready-to-cook products in different cuisines and supply to HORECA, which they then use in their dishes. With an increase in the number of Cloud Kitchens and QSRs, the demand for such products has increased since the last year. This in turn is going to result in an increase in HORECA suppliers.
  2. Innovative & Biodegradable Packaging – The industry has off late seen a demand for innovative and reusable packaging. Many restaurants and cafes are now sending out food in some really good quality packaging. Even manufacturers are coming up with new types of products to fulfill this market demand. For example, Dips are now being served in Glass Jars which people can reuse in their homes. Pizzas are also being served in earthen oval shaped plates which is biodegradable and reusable. Plastic packaging has been replaced by eco-friendly ones that not only look premium but also are environment-friendly. A place has recently started delivering food in tin boxes. This need for unique delivery ideas and packaging ideas is only going to boom in the coming year.
  3. Healthy Food Options – With COVID-19 people have become more conscious of their health and immune system. They look for food options that not only promote a healthy lifestyle but also boosts their immunity. Keeping this in mind many cafes or restaurants have now started offering vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and keto-friendly options. More places that offer a good selection of salads, sandwiches and other healthy options have also come up. This is going to only grow in the coming year.
  4. Multifunctional Spaces – A new emerging trend that is being witnessed is large spaces being used for more than one purpose. Many such cafes or restaurants or playhouses have come up who not only offer seating area for customers to eat food, but also have a play area for kids, rock-climbing arena, handicraft shop etc. The coming year is going to see a surge in this trend.
  5. Meal Kits – With everyone back to their work in full force post COVID, people are relying more on purchasing meal kits rather than cooking themselves. These kits they feel are convenient, authentic, and reasonable. Many home chefs have come up who provide home cooked food kits to meet this demand. Even restaurants are providing do-it-yourself kits of their popular dishes to the public. This trend is going to grow more in the coming year.
  6. Kid-friendly Menus – This trend was already popular in USA but however Indian Menus lacked tailor made options for kids with customized portion sizes. However, a shift has been seen in this and now more menus are ready to offer dishes like Fries, Mac N Cheese Pasta, Mini Burgers etc that are kid-friendly.
  7. Cafes – Apart from Cloud Kitchens and QSRs, more cafes are also now coming up. With people demanding different blends and roasts of coffee nowadays and availability of skilled barista, cafes are coming up to meet these needs. The coming year will see an increase in the opening of more such artisanal cafes.
